Chowdah, doughboys, clam cakes, and ice cream. Practically the four main food groups of any true New England-er, and the specialty at Captain Lou’s Chowdah House. Feel free to lay on the accent when you order a steaming hot bowl of the signature soup, whether you choose the classic New England or Manhattan style chowder. The rest of the menu includes fried seafood dinners, juicy burgers, and all of the obligatory sides, along with combo meals so that you can get all of your favorites. The hardest part will be deciding whether to get the doughboys dusted with your choice of topping, or the hand dipped ice cream. Alas! Captain Lou’s Famous Doughboy Sundae lets you have both along with tons of toppings.
Captain Lou’s Chowdah House is summertime eating at its best. A casual atmosphere to get a beachy seafood dinner followed by something cold and sweet. Find this Bethel institution on Old Hawley Road in Bethel, in the shopping plaza off Route 6.
